Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a hard tissue substitute material, by which a coating having hard tissue affinity can be formed by a simple method on a surface of a base body comprising titanium or a titanium alloy, high bonding strength between the base body and apatite can be secured, and furthermore falling of the coating is prevented.SOLUTION: The production method of the hard tissue substitute material includes an alkali treatment step s3, a hot water treatment step s4, and heating treatment step s5. In the alkali treatment step s3, the base body formed of the titanium or the titanium alloy is immersed in an aqueous alkaline solution and the coating containing alkali titanate is formed on the surface of the base body. Then, in the hot water treatment step s4, an immersing operation of immersing the base body on which the coating is formed in hot water at or above 60°C is repeatedly performed for the prescribed number of times. Then, in the heating treatment step s5, the base body after being immersed in the hot water in the hot water treatment step s4 is heated.
