Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine capable of stably detecting a seam allowance.SOLUTION: A sewing machine 100 includes: a main feed mechanism 20 and a lateral feed mechanism that feed each workpiece in crossing directions; and end detectors 40 and 60 that each detect a seam allowance of the workpiece. The sewing machine 100 controls the lateral feed mechanism so that the seam allowance becomes a target value. The end detectors include: their respective light sources; and their respective detection elements 45 and 65 that each have a plurality of light-receiving sections arranged in the workpiece width direction and each detect the position of the side end of the workpiece in the workpiece width direction from irradiation light blocked by the side end of the workpiece. The sewing machine 100 further includes: actuators 47 and 67 that move the respective end detectors in the workpiece width direction; and a control section 13 that performs the movement control of the actuators in accordance with a change in the target value of the seam allowance.
