Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head X1 in which a probability of a print defect is reduced, and a thermal printer Z1 with the same.SOLUTION: The thermal head X1 comprises: a substrate 1 having one principal surface 3 located at an upstream side of a recording medium conveyance direction, the other principal surface 5 located at a downstream side in the recording medium conveyance direction, and an end face 7 connecting the one principal surface 3 and the other principal surface 5; a heat accumulation layer 15 formed on the end face 7 of the substrate 1; a plurality of heat generation parts 9 provided on the heat accumulation layer 15; and protective layers 17 formed on the heat generation parts 9 and the heat accumulation layer 15 and having exposure parts 19 from which the heat accumulation layer 15 is exposed at both ends of each of the heat generation parts 9 in the arrayed direction thereof. In the thermal head, the substrate 1 is configured so that the distance of the exposure part 19 on the other principal surface 3 side is shorter than the distance of the exposure part on the principal surface 5 side as viewed from the heat generation part 9 side.
