Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely cut a composite material into a desired size vertically by use of a single-edged cutter, while applying ultrasonic vibration to a cutter tool.SOLUTION: The cutting method for vertically cutting a flat composite material 11 while applying ultrasonic vibration to the single-edged cutter 2 includes: setting the cutter 2 vertically with respect to the composite material 11; positioning a cutter reverse face 6 of the cutter 2 on the side of a product 13 to be cut, and positioning a cutting edge 7 on the front side in the cutting direction on a cutting line 12; setting an opening angle between the cutting line 12 and the cutter reverse face 6 by displacing the rear end in the cutting direction closer to the product 13 than to the cutting line 12; canceling a force to be applied on a cutting face 5 of the cutter 2 with a force to be applied on the cutter reverse face 6 in a process of relatively moving the composite material 11 and the cutter 2 along the cutting line 12 during cutting.
