PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dynamically adjust gain and an offset of an optical encoder.SOLUTION: A method for dynamically adjusting gain and an offset in an optical encoder includes steps of: providing an encoder disk including diffraction gratings; irradiating the encoder disk with light; providing a detector constituted so as to detect the light diffracted from the diffraction gratings and to output a first thin count channel; calculating first target gain and a first target offset of the first thin count channel; and applying correction to data sampled from the first thin count channel based on the first target gain and the first target offset.
