Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus having a release switch capable of using the same button without hindering a release operation under water.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus which can be used under water, comprises: focus means; underwater detection means for detecting whether or not the imaging apparatus is under water; release means having a first switch which outputs a first signal by displacement of a displacement button displaced by hand pressing operation and a second switch which outputs a second signal by greater displacement of the displacement button than the displacement; and control means for, when the underwater detection means determines that the imaging apparatus is not under water, causing the focus means to perform automatic focus by the first signal, and then causing the imaging apparatus to perform an exposure operation by the second signal, and for, when the underwater detection means determines that the imaging apparatus is under water, causing the focus means to perform the automatic focus by using only the second signal, and then when the second signal is not detected and is detected again, causing the imaging apparatus to perform the exposure operation.
