Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for winding a sheet-like material, which is aligned in the winding end face when winding a carbon fiber sheet material wherein dispersed carbon short fibers are bound with resin and/or carbide of organic matter, and free from any breakage during the winding, and to provide a method of manufacturing a roll.SOLUTION: This method for winding a sheet-like material uses a device for winding a sheet material in which dispersed carbon short fibers are bound with resin and/or carbide of organic matter. The device includes a winding shaft, a nip roll which is provided on the upstream side of the winding shaft to nip the sheet material, a detection means for detecting the position of the end of the sheet material provided on the upstream side of the nip roll, a moving means for moving the winding shaft in the direction parallel to the central axis of the winding shaft by the detection signal from the detection means, and a control unit for controlling the moving means. The winding is performed at conditions that initial winding tension T1 is ≥40 N/m per unit width, final winding tension T2 satisfies a relation of T1≤T2≤(D1+D2)/D1×T1, where D1 is the initial winding diameter and D2 is the final winding diameter.
