Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable generation of short-pulse light that has a pulse width of 200 femtosecond or less and has a high repetition frequency.SOLUTION: A short-pulse light generating device comprises: a CW light source 1 having an arbitrary center optical frequency; phase modulation means 2 for modulating a phase of continuous laser light from the CW light source 1; an optical gate 5 for increasing peak power by thinning down an optical pulse from the phase modulation means 2; an optical amplifier 6 for amplifying the optical pulse passing through the optical gate 5, and generating broadband light after enlarging an optical spectral range by a non-linear effect in the optical amplifier 6; and dispersion assignment means 7 for compressing the optical pulse amplified by the optical amplifier 6.
