Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for a chemical toner, in which the solubility to an organic solvent used for toner production in a chemical method is excellent, and the low-temperature fixability and the hot offset resistance property are excellent.SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the polyester resin for a toner comprises as follows. A polycarboxylic acid that contains 8-25 mole% of an at least trivalent polycarboxylic acid in 100 mole% of a polycarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol are performed with polycondensation, and the polycondensation is ended in a range in which the softening temperature value of the polyester satisfies formula (1): 115-0.2X<(softening temperature)<136-0.8X. In the formula, X is the number of moles of the at least trivalent polycarboxylic acid in 100 mole of the polycarboxylic acid.
