PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus and an image forming apparatus which even when a foreign matter adheres to an image reading position, recognizes an end of a document from a read image and corrects inclination on the read image.SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus 1 comprises: sensors Sand Sfor reading the sizes of a document 9; an image reading part 16 for reading the read image from the reflected light of the light applied onto a document reading position; a regular reflector 68 which is disposed to serve as the background of the document conveyed to the document reading position and reflects light to the image reading part; and electronic inclination-correction means 86 which reads from the read image a boundary between the background image indicating the reflector 68 and a document image indicating the document 9 within a range of the sizes of the document 9 read by the sensors Sand S, and corrects the boundary with the conveying direction of the document 9 as the reference to correct the inclination of the document image in the read image.
