Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive capable of making the life of an optical pickup long in the optical disk drive having the optical pickup that does not correspond to recording of a predetermined optical disk type.SOLUTION: The optical disk drive which includes an optical pickup having a light source for recording of an optical disk and in which the maximum allowable output power of the light source is smaller than recording power for a predetermined optical disk type includes a discrimination processing part for discriminating the type of an optical disk, and does not perform recording of the optical disk when the type discriminated by the discrimination processing part is the predetermined optical disk type.
