Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil in which a slide member 3 moves back and forth by interlocking with forward and reverse movements of both a chuck 5 and a connection 9 caused by writing operation to rotate a lead holder 16 in one direction, and then rotate a lead 15 and the chuck 5 along with the rotation of the lead holder 16.SOLUTION: In this mechanical pencil, a clamp 6 is externally-fitted in a head 5A on the chuck 5 to install the connection 9 not to rotate for catching the clamp 6 in the slide member 3. A holding member 1 is attached to the slide member 3 in a longitudinal direction movably but not to rotate, as appropriate. Further a cam member is constituted not to rotate to the slide member 3, and a front cam and a rear cam are formed on this cam member, while a front cam 14A and a rear cam 14B are formed on a rotary member 14. By mutual forward and reverse movements between the cam member and the rotary member 14, the lead holder 16 interlocking with the rotary member 14 is rotated in one direction at each predefined angle. Thus the lead 15 is rotated along with rotation of the lead holder 16.
