Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid oxide fuel cell which can prevent excessive temperature rise while increasing total energy efficiency.SOLUTION: A solid oxide fuel cell (1) comprises a fuel cell module (2), fuel supply means (38), oxidant gas for power generation supply means (45), water supply means (28), a combustion section (18) where residual fuel is combusted, and control means (110) for generating variable power. The control means comprises power extraction delay means (110c) for increasing power generation with a delay after increasing the amount of fuel supply, excessive temperature rise estimation means, temperature rise suppression means for suppressing temperature rise while sustaining power generation by reducing the residual fuel, and forced cooling means for lowering the temperature by feeding a cooling fluid when suppression of temperature rise is performed.
