Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems, in a conventional multilevel conversion device, of increasing switching loss due to time integration of voltage and current in switching, enlarging a size of the device due to use of a high withstand voltage element, and increasing cost.SOLUTION: A multilevel conversion apparatus comprises: a switching state selection part for selecting a switching state by inputting an output voltage level signal generated based on a voltage command value, a voltage of capacitor, and an output current; and a commutation sequence selection part for selecting commutation in a switching state by inputting a selected switching state. The commutation sequence selection part includes a commutation means for transiting a switching state at a timing of switching between on/off states in a serial-connected switching element, so that current commutates when voltage switches from/to a range between 0 and -E to/from a range between 0 and +E in output voltage level.
