Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine and a sewing machine control method which, when a main shaft and a cloth feeding mechanism are driven by separate motors, can prevent a sewing operation in such a state that the main shaft and the cloth feeding mechanism are out of synchronization.SOLUTION: The sewing machine comprises: a main motor for driving a main shaft; and a cloth feeding motor for driving a cloth feeding mechanism. The sewing machine control method includes the following steps of: acquiring rotation angles of output shafts of the main motor and the cloth feeding motor (S51 and S56); driving the main motor and the cloth feeding motor in such a way as to synchronize with the rotation angles of the two motors; calculating, from the rotation angle of the main motor, a target rotation angle at which the output shaft of the cloth feeding motor is to be positioned in accordance with the rotation angle of the main motor (S57); calculating a deviation between the calculated target rotation angle and an actual rotation angle of the cloth feeding motor (S58); and when the calculated deviation is larger than a threshold value (S59: NO), notifying an operator that the two motors are out of synchronization (S61).
