Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a VGA-type semiconductor memory when a bit line is discharged.SOLUTION: In a semiconductor memory, when bit lines BL [0] to [7] are discharged, the bit lines are connected with each other by using bit line connection switches 00 to 03 to allow bit line selection transistors 30, 32, 34, and 36 of the plurality of bit line selection transistors 30 to 37 to be conducted, so that only the bit lines BL [0], [2], [4], and [6] are connected to a ground power supply via a main bit line MBL [0] and a discharge transistor 40, and the other bit lines BL [1], [3], [5], and [7] are discharged via the bit line connection switches 00 to 03.
