Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve inability to read a film with a document scanner.SOLUTION: A first reading part is capable of reading a first surface of a reflecting document by applying light from a first light-emitting part for the reflecting document. A second reading part is capable of reading a second surface, which is the other side of the reflecting document, by applying light from a second light-emitting part for the reflecting document. A drive mechanism is capable of varying a focal distance by varying at least a part of the first reading part. Therefore, a control part controls the drive mechanism to vary at least a part of the first reading part to a position where reading is possible with light having passed through the document. After such the variation, the first reading part is enabled to read the document using the light having passed through the document.
