PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead storage battery which employs a cover capable of maintaining quality during a manufacturing process while eliminating the risk of burning due to ignition.SOLUTION: The lead storage battery accommodates an electrode plate group formed by arranging a positive electrode and a negative electrode so as to face each other through a separator, in each of cell chambers in a battery case having a plurality of cell chambers divided by partitions therein, connects these electrode plate groups in series, and has a positive electrode terminal connected with the positive electrode of the electrode plate group at one end and a negative electrode terminal connected with the negative electrode of the electrode plate group at the other end, which are protruded from the top face of the cover. The cover has a raised portion provided so as to surround the positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal, and a peripheral part of the positive electrode terminal and a peripheral part of the negative electrode terminal surrounded by the raised portion are covered with a flame retardant material.
