Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating aluminum oxide and zircon from a slurry composition containing the aluminum oxide and the zircon such as a slurry composition including surplus fine particles produced from a production process of e.g. a polishing material.SOLUTION: In the method for separation, pH of the slurry composition containing the aluminum oxide and the zircon is adjusted to 4.0 to 11.0, at least one kind of anionic surfactant as a collecting agent and an organic solvent as an extractant are added and the slurry composition is mixed such that the amount of the anionic surfactant as the collecting agent to be added is ≥0.25 kg/ton to the total amount of the mixture of the aluminum oxide and the zircon in the slurry composition, and then aluminum oxide and zircon are extracted in an oil phase and a water phase, respectively.
