PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect presence of a bicycle on bicycle parking platforms 4 and 5 called to a loading/unloading stop position P in a vertically circulating bicycle parking device which has a standard bicycle parking platform 4 to support a standard bicycle SB and a nonstandard bicycle parking platform 5 to support a large-size nonstandard bicycle RB.SOLUTION: A position of a front wheel RBf of a bicycle RB on a nonstandard bicycle parking platform 5 in a stopped state at a loading/unloading position is shifted anterior to the position of a front wheel SBf of a bicycle SB on a standard bicycle parking platform 4 in a loading/unloading direction to/from parking platforms 4 and 5. Detectors 36a to 36c for the bicycle RB on the nonstandard bicycle parking platform 5 are configured by the optical transmitter and receiver 38a and 38b having an optical axis crossing only the front wheel RBf of the bicycle RB. The detectors 35a to 35d for the bicycle SB on the standard bicycle parking platform 4 are configured by the optical transmitter and receiver 37a and 37b having the optical axis crossing at least the front wheel SBf of the bicycle SB.
