Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling the drive of a crop shear which performs crop cutting by suppressing occurrence of an error for crop cutting length without using a plurality of detectors in crop cutting of a tip part generated when rolling a steel plate by a continuous hot rolling facility.SOLUTION: In this method of controlling the drive of the crop shear, a crop cut position is determined by measuring a crop shape by a crop shape reading device 2 installed on a rough rolling machine outlet side; across-the-width position data of a steel plate B are measured by the crop shape reading device 2 to calculate a lateral swing amount and a camber amount of the steel plate; a detection object end position of the steel plate detected by a steel plate end detection device 4 from the calculated lateral swing amount and camber amount and the crop shape is estimated to calculate the distance between the detection object end position and the crop cut position; and drive timing of the crop shear 5 is controlled.
