Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element and a photoelectrochemical battery, having high conversion efficiency and excellent in durability, and to provide a dye for photoelectric conversion elements and a dye solution for photoelectric conversion elements.SOLUTION: There is provided a photoelectric conversion element having a photosensitive material layer comprising a dye represented by general formula (1) and semiconductor microparticles, wherein the dye comprises a dye of a compound having a 5C-18C aliphatic group and represented by general formula (1), wherein, Q represents tetravalent aromatic; Xand Xrepresent each independently S, O or CRR, (Rand Rrepresent each independently H, aliphatic, aromatic or heterocycle bonding through C); R and R' represent each independently aliphatic, aromatic, or heterocycle bonding through C; Pand Prepresent each independently a dye residue; and Wrepresents a counter ion in the case of required for the neutralization of an electric charge.
