Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp used for ultraviolet irradiation purposes which has a stronger ultraviolet ray emission near a wavelength 365 [nm].SOLUTION: The metal halide lamp, which is designed to emit mainly ultraviolet rays, has at least mercury and iron content sealed therein along with a rare gas in order to emit light with a strong spectrum especially in a wavelength 350-380 [nm] of ultraviolet rays. The iron content which is sealed in the lamp contains iron iodide and iron bromide as iron halide (FeX) and metallic iron, the sealed-in quantities thereof being such that assuming A=sealed-in quantity of metallic iron, B=sealed-in quantity of iron iodide and C=sealed-in quantity of iron bromide, the quantity of metallic iron A is in the range 0.5(B+C)≤A≤10.0(B+C) [mol/cm], the quantity of iron halide (B+C) is in the range 1.0×10≤(B+C)≤4.5×10[mol/cm], and a ratio of iron bromide in iron halide {C/(B+C)} is in the range {C/(B+C)}=5-70 [%].
