Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and lightweight X-ray generation device which can prevent backscattering X-rays generated from a transmission type target from leaking from the device to the outside, and an X-ray irradiation device using a group of X-ray generation devices.SOLUTION: Backscattering X-rays are absorbed using a structure composed of a cylindrical shield tube which is fixed in a target holder so as to enclose the surface of a transmission type target. This helps to reduce backscattering X-rays to 1/20 or less compared to the case where no shield tubes are installed, making it possible to greatly reduce the amount of lead sheet used to cover the whole of the X-ray generation device. When several units of the X-ray generation device according to the present invention are combined with other devices, it is possible to provide a compact and lightweight X-ray irradiation device which is suitable for X-ray therapy.
