Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure excellent coating properties by reducing unevenness in coating film thickness in a length direction of a base in a method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium using an extrusion type die.SOLUTION: A method of coating the magnetic recording medium uses an extrusion type coating head for coating a surface of a flexible base, traveling continuously along a back edge surface and a curved doctor edge surface, by simultaneously continuously extruding a nonmagnetic coating liquid (lower-layer coating liquid on a side coming into contact with the base) and a magnetic coating liquid (upper-layer coating liquid to be layered on a nonmagnetic lower layer) from a slit tip end. The extrusion type coating head to be used in this method has a slit gap of a die for an upper layer of the extrusion type coating head of 0.05 mm to 0.15 mm, and a smoothing length of the die for the upper layer of 0.1 mm to 1.0 mm.
