PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet-end detecting device having a low-cost configuration, detecting the position of the end of a sheet without performing a complicated operation such as a retreat operation.SOLUTION: The sheet-end detecting device is a detecting means 100 detecting the position of the end of the sheet during transportation, The sheet-end detecting device includes: a light emitting part 101 disposed in a direction perpendicular to the sheet transportation direction; and a light receiving part 102 which is independently arranged at a distance from the light emitting part 101 across the sheet, and is movable with respect to the light emitting part 101. The light receiving part 102 moves along the light emitting part 101 in the direction perpendicular to the sheet transportation direction, and detects a changing point showing whether the light emitted from the light emitting part 101 is shielded by the sheet or not, consequently detects the position of the sheet-end.
