Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a light receiving device covered with an insulating resin without using an expensive metal mold.SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the light receiving device which includes applying an insulating resin material 30A onto a substrate 20 having a light receiving element 10 having a light receiving portion 11 arrayed therein, arranging a mask 60 having an opening 61 corresponding to the light receiving portion 11 and a weir projection 62 formed in the peripheral portion of the opening 61 on the substrate 20, and forming an insulating resin 30 for covering the peripheral portion of the light receiving element 10 and the upper surface of the substrate 20 by expanding the insulating resin material 30A with the mask 60, an opening 31 is formed in the insulating resin 30 and a recessed portion 32 is formed in the upper peripheral edge portion of the opening 31.
