Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device, in which even when an area of a planar electrode is increased to increase brightness of pixels, a memory effect is maintained and contrast of an image is maintained by increasing an area of a partition electrode to the same degree as the area of the planar electrode.SOLUTION: Pixels in which an insulating liquid and migration particles are encapsulated are formed in a region formed by a first substrate, a second substrate and barrier walls. In order to increase a planar electrode 130 to increase brightness of pixels, it is necessary to decrease the width of the barrier wall 110, however, in this case, it is necessary to decrease the height of the barrier wall 110 to satisfy a demand for mechanical strength. When the height of the barrier wall 110 is decreased, the area of the barrier electrode is decreased and a memory effect can not be maintained. In order to increase the area of the barrier electrode, the planar shape of the barrier wall 110 is formed into a staggered pattern.
