PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reagent and a support surface for immobilization of biomolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins.SOLUTION: A method for covalent attachment of a target molecule such as a nucleic acid onto a substrate surface is provided, and a reagent composition for the method is provided. The reagent composition includes an epoxide group capable of covalently binding to the target molecule. Optionally, the reagent composition can contain a photoreactive group for use in attaching the reagent composition to the surface. The reagent composition can be used to provide an activated slide for use in preparation of a microarray of a nucleic acid.
