Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector capable of highly accurately detecting the position of an indicator even under a condition where imaging environment such as lighting is variable; and to provide a touch panel including the position detector.SOLUTION: This position detector includes: two or more image pickup units capturing images on a detecting surface from different positions and generating images; and a position detecting unit for detecting the position of an indicator on the detecting surface by detecting an indicator candidate region, or a region capable of indicating the indicator, from the image generated by the imaging of the image pickup units. When detecting indicator candidate regions of a prescribed dimension or larger from the respective images generated by the two or more image pickup units, the position detecting unit handles the indicator candidate regions as regions not indicating the indicator.
