PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a lightweight hollow body and the lightweight hollow body.SOLUTION: The hollow body manufacturing method using a pair of molds to be vacuum sucked from the molding surface of the molds and means for supplying gas into the thermoplastic resin foam sheet, includes the following steps (1), (2), (3) and (4): (1) a heating step for heating the thermoplastic resin foam sheet; (2) a supplying step for supplying the thermoplastic resin foam sheet between the molds; (3) a mold closing step of closing the mold, and holding the heated thermoplastic resin foam sheet between the outer edge parts of the mold; and (4) a shaping step of sucking the air in the space formed between the molding surface and the foam sheet from the molded surface of the both molds, using the means for supplying the gas into the foam sheet, to supply the gas into the foam sheet, and forming the hollow portion in the foam sheet to form a predetermined shape.
