Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated solid catalyst for synthesis of methacrylic acid capable of suppressing powdering or collapse, increasing filling amount of a catalyst component in a reactor and improving methacrylic acid selection rate and single-pass yield in synthesis of methacrylic acid.SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the coated solid catalyst to synthesize methacrylic acid by performing gas phase contact oxidation of methacrolein by molecular oxygen includes a step of spraying coating fluid wherein cellulose is dissolved in solvent on a solid catalyst body to make the coating fluid adhere to the solid catalyst body and vaporizing the solvent by blowing drying air on the solid catalyst body to coat the surface of the solid catalyst body with 0.1-5 pts.mass of the cellulose with respect to 100 pts.mass of the solid catalyst body. An environmental value of the coating indicated by a ratio between supply speed (g/min) of the solvent included in the coating fluid and a flow rate (Nm/min) of the drying air is set to be 5-12 g/Nm, and the surface temperature of the solid catalyst body is set to be 45-70°C.
