Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head capable of high-density recording and a method of manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: A perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR: perpendicular magnetic recording) head is shielded in the horizontal direction by a pair of side shield sections 40 that is extended from an edge of a trailing edge shield and symmetrically separated so that its magnetic pole tip part 15 forms a π-type shield. The direction of an axis of easy magnetization of the side shield section is an in-track direction. The side shield does not increase a self-fringe magnetic field that generates deletion beyond an adjacent track and can effectively prevent deletion of the adjacent track caused by the fringe magnetic field of the magnetic pole tip part.
