PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane area detection device that suppresses non-detection and false detection of the plane area originated from coincidence of luminance values in other than a plane area and errors in projection conversion.SOLUTION: A plane area detection device includes: an image acquisition part that acquires a left image 100 and a right image 110; a plane area alignment part 30 that sets predetermined areas-of-interest on the acquired left image 100 and right image 110, and then performs geometric conversion using a geometric conversion function that makes the area-of-interest of the left image coincide with that of the right image, generating a geometric conversion image 130; and a plane area detection part 55 that detects a plane area 140 based on the geometric conversion image 130 and the area-of-interest of the right image 110. The plane area alignment part 30 sets the plane area 140 detected by the plane area detection part 55 as a predetermined area-of-interest.
