PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for accurately determining whether or not an inner pressure of a can is acceptable during a conveyance process of the can.SOLUTION: A method for determining an inner pressure of a can determines whether or not the inner pressure of a can 1 is acceptable by measuring a displacement of a portion B deformed by the inner pressure at a can end of the can 1 which is being conveyed. In the method, the portion B which is deformed by the inner pressure at the can end and portions A and C which are not deformed are simultaneously measured by irradiating the can end with a band-like laser beam. Based on a measured value, an average displacement of the portion B deformed by the inner pressure is obtained. The direction of the laser beam is then changed, and a measurement is carried out in the same way as described above. Based on a measured value, another average displacement of a portion E deformed by the inner pressure is obtained. Furthermore, an average is calculated based on the above two average displacements. By comparing the average value and a predetermined allowable range, a determination is made as to whether or not the inner pressure of the can is acceptable.
