PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass base material of cover glass for portable equipment, in which the shape of the edge part constituted of a main surface and an end surface is not sharp and which has high mechanical strength.SOLUTION: The glass base material of cover glass for portable equipment is obtained by forming, on a main surface of a plate-like glass substrate, a resist pattern having such a polymerization degree gradient in the thickness direction that the polymerization degree becomes small on the main surface side, and then cutting the glass substrate into a desired shape by etching the glass substrate by using the resist pattern as a mask and using an etchant capable of etching the glass substrate so that the edge part constituted of the main surface and an edge surface may be made into such an edge that the whole layers are not cut by a sharp edge test based on UL-1439.
