Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately perform machining of a curved face like a spherical surface continuously for a longer time.SOLUTION: A grinding device includes: a main shaft equipped with a chuck 26 for holding a workpiece 28; a machining head 40; and a means for moving the machining head relatively to the workpiece 28. The machining head 40 includes for example: a pair of guide rollers 46; a grinding belt 48 stretched over the guide rollers 46; and a driving motor 52 for driving (making to run in a circumferential direction) a grinding belt 48 through the guide rollers 46. The workpiece 28 is machined by making it contact with the outer peripheral face in a part stretched over the guide rollers 46 of the belt 48 while the grinding belt 48 is made to run. The grinding belt 48 is constituted in such a manner that it is provided with an outer periphery having a circular arcuate cross convex outward and that abrasive grains are fixed to the outer periphery with a binder.
