Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient and economical method for manufacturing a borohydride compound.SOLUTION: A first process comprises mixing a compound of the formula: (RO)M with a metal catalyst containing at least one metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, vanadium, tantalum and iron, aluminum, and hydrogen to produce a compound of the formula: M(AlHOR)(wherein Ris phenyl, or phenyl substituted with at least one of alkyl and alkoxy; M is an alkaline metal, Be, or Mg; and y is 1 or 2). A second process comprises mixing the compound of the formula: M(AlHOR)with a borate, boroxine or borazine compound to produce a by-product mixture containing the alkaline metal and an aluminum aryloxide, and M(BH). A third process comprises separating the M(BH)from the by-product mixture.
