Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating shaft seal capable of maintaining stable sealing performance for a long time even when strict requests such as high rotation and low leakage are made.SOLUTION: In the rotating shaft seal, first and second seal elements 1, 2 curved into an approximately J-shaped cross section via curved wall parts 5 and into a basic thickness T are curved along a shaft axial center L in opposite directions. Strip-shaped recessed circumferential grooves 7 are formed on opposing surfaces 6 of the respective curved wall parts 5 of the first and second seal elements 1, 2. Tip edges 8 come into contact with an outer surface 9a of a rotating shaft 9 with the contact surface pressure at a peak and the contact width E not greater than twice the basic thickness T.
