Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine capable of saving a cost of electricity according to the degree of dirt.SOLUTION: The drum type washing machine performs at least one step of washing and rinsing by driving a rotating drum 62 using a motor 64, and installs a hot water heater 79 for heating washing water in the bottom of a water tank 61 and an electrode sensor 81 substantially horizontally in a water circulation system 73 where the water in the water tank 61 is circulated by a circulating pump 72. When the conductivity detected by the electrode sensor 81 is higher than a predetermined value, the step of washing is performed by turning on the power of the hot heater 79 and when the conductivity detected by the electrode sensor 81 is lower than the predetermined value, the step of washing is performed by turning off the power of the hot heater 79, thus, the cost of electricity is saved according to the degree of dirt.
