Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-blast circuit breaker having a superior breaking performance with a small driving energy from a small-and-middle current to a large current.SOLUTION: The gas-blast circuit breaker includes an opening 33b as a gas flow passage in a cylinder 13, and a floating barrier rib W structured slidable with the cylinder 13 is inserted. An inner space of the cylinder 13 is divided into a thermal boosting chamber 31 and a mechanical compression chamber 32 and is biased constantly forward by a spring S. When satisfying a relation of [a pressure of the thermal boosting chamber]-[a pressure of the mechanical compression chamber]>0.2-2.2 MPa, the floating barrier rib W moves backward.
