PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert a variant character into a normalization character selected by a user.SOLUTION: A normalization processing apparatus 1 stores the variant character and the candidate of the normalization character, in association with each other, and stores identification information indicating the selected normalization character among the candidates of the normalization character. The processing apparatus 1 also retrieves a character which coincides with the stored variant character among the characters included in a character string to be normalized. When the character coinciding with the variant character, which is stored in the storage part, is retrieved, the processing apparatus 1 obtains the selected normalization character among the candidates of the normalization characters associated with the retrieved variant character, based on the identification information. Subsequently, the processing apparatus 1 converts the character included in the character string to be normalized into the obtained character. That is, the processing apparatus 1 converts the character included in the character string to be normalized into the selected normalization character.
