Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly start up an apparatus to be connected, without requiring a wiring other than that for an optical transmission medium, and to reliably recognize the apparatus to be connected to the optical transmission medium.SOLUTION: A card adaptor 300 includes transceiver sockets 312A, 312B connectable to an optical transceiver 600 connected to an optical active cable 500, a card edge connector 316 connectable to the apparatus and for transmitting a sideband signal, and a control part 310 connected to the transceiver sockets 312A, 312B and the card edge connector 316, for detecting a communication state via the optical active cable 500, and for generating the sideband signal, based on the detected communication state.
