Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient framework for storing, converting and reproducing high dynamic range images. SOLUTION: An apparatus for decoding high dynamic range image data includes: an input unit for receiving a data structure 16 comprising a tone map 16A and high dynamic range (HDR) images 16B; a decoder for decoding the tone map 16A to generate a first image; and a correction system unit for down-sampling the first image to generate a down-sampled image, determining a ratio of a pixel value in the first image and a corresponding pixel value in the down-sampled image, and performing correction (114) based on the ratio on corresponding pixels in image data represented by the HDR images 16B.
