Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of plants having increased intergranular space, To provide cells capable of regenerating plants having increased intergranular space, and to provide plant bodies and the like having increased intergranular space and regenerated by the cells. SOLUTION: Plants overexpressing SG1 gene is produced and intergranular spaces are compared with those of wild-type ones. As the result, it is confirmed that the intergranular spaces are shortened in the transformants compared with those of wild-type ones, wherein the measurement of the intergranular spaces is performed by using a newly developed software capable of easily and simply measuring the intergranular spaces. As the participation of the SG1 gene and SGL2 gene homologous gene thereof to intergranular space determination is assumed, so plant bodies suppressed in expression of the both of the SG1 gene and SGL2 gene are produced and the intergranular spaces are measured. As the result, it is confirmed that the plant bodies suppressed in expression of these two genes increase intergranular spaces compared with those of the wild type ones. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
