Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjustment device promptly and surely regulating relative rotation between a housing and a vane rotor and immediately stopping an engine. SOLUTION: A first locking hole 140 includes a first fitting hole 141, and a first guide hole 142 extending in a retard direction from the opening end of the first fitting hole 141 on the side of the vane rotor 16 and shallower than the first fitting hole 141. The phase of the vane rotor 16 when both the relative rotation of the vane rotor 16 in the retard direction with respect to the housing 11 and the relative rotation thereof in an advance direction with respect thereto are regulated by fitting a stopper pin 30 into the first fitting hole 141 is regarded as a lock phase. When an ECU determines that "the engine is in an idle state", the ECU controls the operation of a selector valve, thereby maintaining the phase of the vane rotor 16 so that the position of the stopper pin 30 is located on "a retard side" in comparison with the position of the stopper pin 30 when located in the lock phase.
