Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting esophagus cancer or predicting the prognosis of the esophagus cancer by newly discovering a cancer-inhibiting gene associated with the esophagus cancer, and analyzing the change of the inhibiting gene, to provide an esophagus cancer inhibitor containing the cancer-inhibiting gene, and to provide the esophagus cancer inhibitor containing a protein encoded by the cancer-inhibiting gene. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the esophagus cancer or predicting the prognosis of the esophagus cancer includes a step for analyzing the change of PCDH17 gene in a specimen. The esophagus cancer inhibitor contains the PCDH17 gene or a homologous gene thereof. In another embodiment, the esophagus cancer inhibitor contains PCDH17 protein or a homologous protein thereof.
