Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can continuously produce nitrobenzene with high selectivity in a prominently high yield in a compact reaction apparatus in a method for adiabatic aromatic compound nitration method achieving a high space time yield without detriment to product quality. SOLUTION: Nitrobenzene is produced by continuously nitrating benzene with mixed nitrating acid under adiabatic conditions in which the pressure on the upstream side of a nitration reactor is higher by 14-40 bar than the pressure in the vapor phase of a phase separation apparatus used to separate crude nitrobenzene from the waste acid.
