Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device and an exhaust emission control method for an external combustion engine using CO for eliminating NOx from exhaust gas in an oxygen-exceeding atmosphere with high eliminating performance, and to provide a method for using a NOx, CO eliminating catalyst. SOLUTION: In an exhaust gas flow path of the external combustion engine which emits exhaust gas containing CO and Nox and having an atmosphere in which oxygen exceeds a stoichiometric amount, the exhaust emission control device for the external combustion engine is arranged which has the Nox, CO eliminating catalyst using CO as a reducing agent for reducing a nitrogen oxide (NOx) to be eliminated from the exhaust gas. The NOx, CO eliminating catalyst has a porous carrier and a catalytically active component supported on the porous carrier. The catalytically active component containing Ir and the porous carrier containing an S-component can impart a NOx, CO eliminating function thereto. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
