Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a consumable electrode type vacuum arc melting method and a device for the same capable of correctly and surely grasping a melting state in a furnace, and controlling an operation of the melting furnace as necessary, even when the inside of the melting furnace in melting cannot be visually observed, when metal ingots of metal of high melting point is obtained by melting and solidifying an electrode for melting by generating arc in the melting furnace. SOLUTION: This consumable electrode-type vacuum arc melting device for obtaining metal ingots D of metal of high melting point by melting and solidifying the electrode A for melting by generating arc B in the melting furnace 1, includes an infrared ray camera 11 for obtaining a thermal image inside of the melting furnace 1, an image processing device 12 for taking the thermal image obtained by the infrared ray camera 11 and obtaining in-furnace temperature information from the thermal image, and a control device 14 for determining the melting state in the furnace on the basis of the thermal image obtained by the infrared ray camera 11 or the in-furnace temperature information obtained by the image processing device 12, and controlling the operation of the melting furnace 1 on the basis of the melting state.
